Ok so it's no secret that petrol is a good substance for cleaning older diesel fuel systems. How much would be a safe/reasonable amount to put in a 300 tdi with a tank 50% full with veggie oil?

Also, will a bit petrol make it easier to start in the morning? That said, I'm guessing it's not suitable for long term use even in small quantities?

Its not a problem at all Rich, stick 1 litre per tankful in, it'll help thin things out a bit in winter too if it gets real parky again.

Surprising what engines will put up with, really. I used to chuck meths into my old cortina 2L petrol in winter for better cold starts. A litre of unleaded is about right for a tank of derv/veg mix,I reckon.Plus there is duty paid on the petrol so the VOSA dip cnuts can say sod all about it.
