Yeah I thought it was split early/late as well but I reackon my late 97 tdi has the 81l tank as the most I can get in it is 83l (with filling the spout up as well).
Another random landy thing maybe? Like they used what was in at the time

Im pretty sure after 94 it changes to the 89 litre
Im not sure whether the early or latter part of 94
Someone will know for sure

My old RR classic had a tank for 81.5 Lts (18 gallons). If by any chance your tank is steel then that's where it may have come from, or is it only the 300 series D1 that's plastic.

its a standard fuel tank out of a disco Andy....How did the RRC pass it's MOT with a non standard plastic tank
