Hi, I am new to the world of defenders and looking for a bit of advice, I am looking to buy a Defender 90 300tdi but would like to know if there is anything that will help me identify it as a 300 series?

the 300 injun has a single "serpentine" belt driving the ancillaries.
200 has multiple belts.
that's the easiest way to tell.

Thanks Treworgey. is there any way from the paperwork that I could tell if its been a conversion from a hard top to the county spec?

Try this Land Rover VIN checker. I haven't used it myself, it doesn't work for AAD-assembled Land Rovers.

There is another one in Holland I think.
