I bought my TD4 car in April of last year and it had been regularly serviced. Is it likely that it will have the new BMW cranckcase breather? Is there an easy way to check?
As tempting as it is to say "open it and have a look" might be easier to ring the last service centre and ask them. Dunno how else you'd be able to tell to be fair
(The serial no. on the top of the housing may well be enough info to work it out if you check it against bmw part no.)
as far as i know, on a full service they wont change the original for the better bmw part, they will just change it for the same landrover foam type filter.
i just bought the bmw upgraded breather for mine, fitted it in 20 mins.
As I understand this will not have to be replaced anymore. Some say not even been cleaned. (maintenance free). Others say they advise to clean it every 2 years.
The cotton version you mean by needs changing regularly ? The new BMW version is now an all plastic one, no oil can get "in" it and block the whole thing as the cotton version can do ?
And remember you can buy just the internals of the BMW part rather than the whole housing for around £20, search on here for the part codes or just tell your local dealer its for an M47 engine.
