something simple for you guys that tow all the time or even regularly,,

I have a full tow bar and looks like full electrics fitted to my Freelander,

they were on there when I got it so never tested the electrics,
is there an easy test to see if they are fully working, as I will possibly
be getting a trailer in the summer and don't want to mess about when I pick it up,
I would like just to attach it and plug it in and know the light board will work.

do you not own a circuit tester??

check the voltage at the pins as each function is used ,pins are numbered on the rear or look up pin diagram

Or find someone you know with a trailer and plug it in.

like me...

whereabouts (roughly) are you in kent. more than welcome to come round and plug into my trailer to test, or if I can find the bulbs, you can test it with me trailer board if you like.(robbed the bulbs to go in the trailer)

I have a tester, just little knowledge mate..as always thanks for the reply..

I have now found out what plug type I have its the 7 pin N Type & S Type,
and found a diagram for the test..

wouldnt has anyone got a trailer so i can test my socket be a more appropiate question

I will stick with my question as I have had a very good response,
And I thank you all for it..

But just in case,,

has anyone got a trailer so I can test my sockets are fully functioning??

well, you are more than welcome to pop up to the dartford crossing area if you wish, BUT consider this:

by the time you have paid for the diesel to make the roud trip, you could probably buy a trailer board to test the 7 pin lighting, then you'd have a trailer board.

testing by circuit tester is dead easy too, which kind do you have ? if it's the screwdriver and a light one, easiest still, one end clipped to towball or other suitable earth, probe end onto each pin in turn, you will see tester light up as each circuit tested.

if you have a digital voltmeter, still ok, but the indicators flash on and off so fast the display can't keep up, so you are just looking for a constantly changing value. (you'll see what I mean when you do it)
