take thin pipe off top of rad and make sure its clear fiil it back up leave top off and look for water comming out off pipe in to expation tank

I kind of suspected this could be what it was, as I have read about the problems in this very forum. As soon as the temp flew up i was going 'Ohhhh noooooooooooo'. And crossing fingers.
Having said that, there's other things it could be too, so I'm not going to give up hope until I get it seen to on Monday by someone who knows what they are doing (i.e. not me).

where are you somebody may be able to help you?
i would get a top hat linered block in there, if you like the car that much its worth it. after all you could buy another and 6 months the liners go and your back to the point you are now!!! thats what happened to me, luckily not much bothers me and it doesnt matter how bad things are, worrying and getting upset doesnt get engines fixed!!!

and if its warratied then so long as its covered its of no consequence that they tested it!!! after all how many times have you bought something got it home and turns out its fecked so you have to take it back and get a replacement!!!

Dont get to carried away. A boil over can be something as simple as a failed expansion tank cap. This lets the old girl boil and chuck its water out so you think "oh crap !" and top it up again and hope for the best. But you dont bleed the system properly so you get an air lock which leads to a boil up and an overheat, a warped head and a blown gasket. Bottom line, if it gets hot - stop, find out why.
Unfortuantly they dont fix themselves so hoping is usually not a good option.
Do like Gav says and get a HC test to start with.
