With all the nice weather it has brought a problem to my Freelander. It seems that it will start fine in the morning or of it's been left a few hours, however if I go on a journey and then park up for 10 mins and try to re start it I get a turn over and a rough idle with no throttle response and then it will cut out, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 attempts before it fires up properly and goes and then no problems at all.

Even when it does fire up after messing around for 4 attempts it splutters and does what it's done for the first 4 attempts before actually catching and idling properly.

As I said though, first thing in the morning, straight away starting now problems.

After reading it sounds like it might be a cam sensor.

Also I'll be hoping to do this job myself and I'm really struggling to find a link or place to buy a RAVE manual for a td4. Mine's a 2004(54), I tried a few links posted years ago that don't work and the (myrangerover) site that I saw a link for asks for authentication first.

It looks like the RAVE manual is the one to get so any info on downloads or places to buy the CD for my model would be so much appreciated.

Thanks very much in advance

looking at the haynes manual .. appears to be a simple job ..
about as difficult as changing a light bulb ..

as for the Rave downloads ..

a working link was posted recently .. like two/three days ago maybe ..
in this freelander section .. .. try a site search ( button at top-o-page )
i tried it .. got some data downloaded .. but it appears to be for pc/windows computers
so i couldn't use it .. and deleted the data and link info

cam sensor :

pics attached ..

.. the oil filler cap can just be seen top left in pic ..

looks like the injector cover needs to be removed first ( assuming )
be sure to retighten all the cover bolts .. as one of them will leak oil if left loose ( going by memory )

Thanks so much for the help so far fellas. I'm truly overwhelmed, I'll check that link now and hopefully get an insight on changing the cam sensor and then I'll look in to injectors if not, I think I'll need a bit of help on that one though lol.

I'll definitely report back as to if the cam sensor changed worked, hopefully the info might help someone else in the future.

Meanwhile I'm going to have a look around this site, it's a book of knowledge I'm quite amazed. Found out that the freelander I've got has the same engine as the bmw 320d I had a few years back, I sold that because the low range power became non existent. The guy that bought it let me know he had to replace the injectors and he didnt have much change from £1000, so hopefully it's not them causing the problems.

Thanks again I'll check that link for RAVE

** I'm on my phone, not sure the link works on that at the moment so I'll check on computer tomoz. Is it straightforward downloading it?

Please excuse my terrible computer skills. On my pc when I click the link to download the RAVE manual to my computer I get the screen in the photo I've attached.
So I (saved) the rave01 file which took an hour to download, then when I went to recent downloads and clicked rave01 it came up with a thing about burning it to cd.
I've obviously done something wrong here, any chance someone could briefly explain to a moron how to download it to my PC properly so I can view it. OR do I need to burn it to a cd or something.

Thanks again in advance

Burned RAVE01 on to disc and put disc in, and I've just got untold little files that lead to nothing really, just a few pictures.
I'm downloading epc.cdi now and I'll see what that does.

Christ alive, I know I'm bad with computers but is there a special way to do this.
Does no body sell them where I can put them in the computer click on a certain fault or part I need to look at?

Thanks again

you are about as good as I am I am unable to down load it never mind putting it on a disk some one on EBay sells them :frusty:

Is this the right one? There's only 2 on there and is it for petrol or td4.

Is this the most illusive document ever or what? I'm tempted to get a Haynes one that seem readily available but I'm told this almost non existent RAVE one is better

Cheers fellas
