First thing to do is look for air in clear pipe from filter to FIP. If you see air it could be O rings on either side of filter need changing or spill pipes are drawing air. Also check that intank pump is working. Remove plastic cover from top of engine and look for diesel in injectors wells. If you see any change spill pipes. It could also be that your injector pump needs retiming. The hot start fix is a mask for a problem, better to find the fault and repair it.

right my 99 dse is suffering the usual hot start problem read a few things on it but cant get my head around the fix will this do it as i dont want to break it even more

Hot Starting Fix - Range Rover BMW Diesel - P38 DT DSE | eBay

also it has now got excessive diesel use it drinking like a fish. is it linked to the hot start problem or something different thank you

You need to get the fault codes read before you contemplate fitting a hot start fix which will only confuse matters.
If it's using a lot of diesel, does it get up to temperature, does it smoke, any smell of diesel under the bonnet? It either has to be burning the stuff or losing it through a leak.

right i am going to have a good look at it tomorrow. it does not smoke at all the only faults with the whole car is the warm starting and the diesel use now. £10 of diesel done around 25-30 most of it dual carriage way with 50mph limit and it completely ran out on the side of the road i had to walk to the petrol station to get some more. ill let you know my results tomorrow. my other p38 has done 205k runs like a dream and dont drink hardly anywhere that amount

£10.00 of diesel is only around 1.5 gallons so if it runs out in 30 miles you are getting 20 mpg. Get fault codes read, sort any problems. Give it a good service, see what you get then. Got a feeling pump modulation will be miles out. Pump retime should sort that.

£10 worth of diesel - Only place i would go was to fill it up and get the air out then tackle other issues if any left.

Just my £10:)
