Hi !

I'm a car enthusiast who's been active on few fora in the UK (you'll find me there under the same name).
I've been owning "scoobies", still got an Lancer Evo IX and I always liked "big saloons" (got a Merc S63 AMG and a BMW 750i E65).

Few years ago, I got myself a Shogun 3.5 V6 LWB "workhorse". Supposed to be used for towing, hauling junior's go-kart around and get us around when we are in Finland in winter... meanwhile I have "worn out" two of them (they ended up being more of my main vehicle driving >40000m per year with them).
Since I spent £2200 and £3200 buying them (and got some money back selling), it was good value.

Only downside: lack of power when towing.

Which is why I want to move a bit upmarket. Having driven Range Rovers several times, I'd really like to get one.

Budgetwise it looks like I'd end up with a 3.6 TDV8 or 4.2SC with 100K miles on the clock (2006-2008).

I am hoping to find some advice here on this site when choosing :)

Oh yeah... I also own two old Merc's. A 300SL-24 (R129) and a 320E (W124).

Welcome chap :) plenty of info on here and plenty of brains to pick so you don't end up buying a lemon !

Yes. Problem is double: 1. They're more exprnsive than RR for a similar car. 2. Lack of power.

If I sell a (very reliable) Shogun 3.5 V6 to get more power, it's really to get more power. Not to have a very small improvement (which might be cancelled by the considerable extra weight of the Disco) and having to deal with a car that is quite a bit less reliable ;)

The Range Rover one would likely be best - the guys who frequent there are very knowledgeable but you can also try the general Land Rover one as well.

Hmmm... Main response I got was "we've explained this before, search for it" (not found anything, tbh) or "google" ... :(

Luck draw then ;)

Ashame as there really is not too much information around on for instance the real life reliability and fuel consumption of the 4.2 SC.

(I've had the 3.6 TDV8 as a renter few times and... it's thirsty. Very thirsty. So not sure a petrol would be so much worse)

Will try. Never came across this one.

seems it has more specific help there , hopefully it may be of use to u and gives u an extra option of finding out what u need to find out

at the end of the day all about helping other landy owners,

Not sure, but cannot be a disaster.

I have a Merc S63 AMG on the drive and a Mitsi Evo IX with 440bhp ... (and the worst in insurance is my caravan  )

got any pics plse , we all like piccies ;)

How do you add a pic here? Photobucket?

Well, also have an E65 BMW 750i Sport, a Merc 300SL-24 and we're now just finishing a Merc 320E (W124).

They're actually not that bad in insurance. BMW, AMG and Evo around 700 per year fully comp. The SL and 320E are registered at our house in France and are 450 Euros per year (but both 25 years old).

The caravan is more than £1000

if u look on the bottom of ur thread when u hit reply it has upload file , press on that then select ur pic out of ur picture folder

hope that makes sense, lol

blimey ref the caravan, that is outrageous , my D3 is £600 fully comp, 5 x years protected ncb, full recovery inc home start , key cover and 25% extra valve on accident or write off, theft

still think ins is way overboard in comparison to a few years back, seems the false accident claims being made have pushed ins up

Few thumbnails. Hope they open when you click on them. IMG_7906.JPG
