I used to work at a Mercedes dealer next door to a kwik fit, we fixed their bodges so many times it was scary! They couldn't get the basics right, then of course there was the time when they left a customers wheel loose! Upside was they did us very cheap tyres:)
I've never come across that, how many freelanders are on the road? If it was a big issue I think it'd be common knowledge, suspect theyve probably had an bad experience at that branch with a freelander so they come up with a lame excuse not to do them.
Leaks on alloys around the bead/rim seal due to corrosion etc aren't uncommon, but they're easily rectified!

Also found an interesting white paper on VCUs which has helped put my mind at rest.

On the plus side, I found a nail in my tire on Sunday so shuffled round to Kwik-tit only to be told they “don’t do Land Rover”. The till-chimp started muttering about alloys being rubbish and “rim-leak”... Has anyone else had issues with this?

Hi,

I have 8 alloys and 3 of them have had to be cleaned up and repainted on the inside - due to the white aluminium oxide powder type of corrosion. I caught 2 in time when I was fitting new tyres but number 3 started a slow leak from the rim when the tyre was about half way through it's life.

National tyres are quite good if you have dodgy rims - the guy there coated the inner beads with some black rubber solution before refitting the tyre and have had no probs since.

I wouldn't go near kwik-twit as they always tell me tyre is 'irrepairable sir - we can do you a special price on a replacement' No thank you!

On the VCU side - can you give us a link to the 'white paper' you've mentioned, please?

Singvogel.

I normally get good service from Kwik-tit but this time I got the feeling they just didn't want to know. Spoke to the dealership I got the car from and he's put me on to their tyre guy, hopefully he'll not be scared of doing a days work for his wage...

Singvogel - can't find the link but have the paper saved as a PDF, PM me your e-mail address and I'll ping you a copy.

I use a local tyre company, they're often half the price and know what they're doing. Corroded alloys shouldn't be much of an issue for some one that knows what they're doing.

Found it again! Link to the white paper... Vanagon Body Repair Manual

DD - don't know if I'm alone in thinking it's getting harder and harder to find someone who's prepared to make an effort these days, let alone finding someone who knows what they're doing!
