hmmmmn....? 2.2 (2012) Puma; doesn't feel like loss of power, but 'restricted' power in 4th gear? It's the hissing (only on acceleration and feels throughout the vehicle rather than from the engine alone - if that makes sense) and the warning light that's troubling? Checked all hoses, no coolant or oil change; idling fine. Suppose I've got to get a code-reader, any advice which one? Thanks for advice.

Surely hissing has to be an air leak, code reader won’t help that

Yes thanks for reply Freelance; I had a fairly good look with the light I had, but couldn't see, or feel - with fingers around air hose, anything obvious. Will look again in daylight. It would account for restricted power.

A code reader should identify the fault(s) causing the loss of power. Hissing indicates a loss of boost pressure. Do you know if your Landy has had the boost hose replacement under warranty? The original rubber hose 90 degree bend attached to the outlet of the turbo is prone to wearing through because a knuckle joint in the steering shaft touches it. The dealer replacement / fix is a one piece rubber and steel pipe between the turbo and intercooler. Inspect that area, you might find a leak there. I recommend a nanocom for reading the faults and clearing them, but expensive and limited to reading and clearing faults only on a puma (they have a much wider range of uses on other landys).

Hissing sound when you accelerate is likely to be a turbo hose or your intercooler or part of the turbo system, and may only be ‘felt’ when on boost - I mean when it’s just sitting idling it may not be visible, audible or felt,

granted mine is a 200tdi and doesn’t have all the gizmos but I had a turbo hose clip fail enough that on boost it opened up the pipe a bit and allowed an air leak. You may have a similar situation, only way is to very carefully examine all hoses

Thanks guys, sorted! It was indeed the hose attached to the turbo, took me a while to find it as Flat said, when idling nothing was visible or felt, and no sound of air. I had a good feel around the area Wimblowdriver suggested and there was indeed a nasty split in the bend of the hose. Patched it up, replacement hose will be fitted by dealer free of charge! Can't say fairer than that!
