Seem to have an odd problem with my 2005 Freelander - if I reverse with the hill descent switched on it seems to try and brake the rear wheels on flat level tarmac !
All lights go off as they should on start up,all tyres the same size and make and it seems ok going forward - not noticed it happening on my other two older ones ?

I know the obvious answer is why do it but curious ......:confused:
 
It will slow yer down if the speed goes above a set value and yer takes yer foot oft the pedals. Gearbox must be in 1st or reverse. Reason for allowing it to work in reverse is because it could assist you in a failed hill climb, when reversing back down. The fact it works on level ground is due to the above: speed above set value, took feet oft pedals and reverse + hdc selected. hdc is active in this condition (unless the brakes are too hot or a fault is present) so it activates.

A way to check if HDC is working without the need for a hill then ? :)
 
Ok , thanks for that , just had not noticed the same in first or with my other Freelanders - will need to pay more attention !

You can feel the brakes are "harder" straight after as they have been pumped up .

Videos kinda scary initially but impressive :clap2:

Just tried mine tonight down a hill (quiet tarmac bridleway).... I didn't need any speed to get it to work though - I just crept over the brow in 1st with HDC turned on, feet off the pedals and it took me down at about walking pace or just a bit more maybe.

I went fast to display it's ability to take control of the speed and reduce it. If I'd have kept filming after it slowed to correct the speed the brakes would pulse less often just to limit speed. Similar to your test keeping it slow and only triggering the brakes with a slight increase in speed.

You don't get it in first on level ground because the speed is less with no feet on the pedals than in reverse with not feet.

the hill descent control as it says in the book works with the accelerator if you put you foot down a tiny little bit it eases of the brakes take you foot of the gas and it puts the hill decent on more on the brakes that what it says in the book.

Cheers ...been trying to find my handbook - probably find it when we take the x mas decorations down lol :)

Which book?

hdc stops abs pulse braking the brakes (if required) when you put yer foot on the brake of accelerator pedal. The system will activate again if you take your feet off the pedals.
