Hello folks
I'm refugee from a Mitsi Delica. Was fun for a while but have got kind of sick of all the catastrophic failures. I've been thinking about replacing it for a while. But with what? Yesterday I looked under the bonnet of a Ford Mondeo, and got a heavy case of THE FEAR. WTF is it with all that plastic? How are you supposed to change a light bulb?
In short I've decided I need a Land Rover. I live in the Highlands so the 4x4 thing is really very useful. I want a car that is easy and cheap to repair myself. I learnt to drive in a 109 on forestry tracks, used to drag trees out with it, drive it down the beach, treat it like a tool. Mind you, still have the memories of excruciatingly uncomfortable journeys in it, and if I'm going to sell the idea to the Mrs will have to go for something a little later.
I'm cheap, so can't afford a Defender, I'm after a 110. I have two small children, and annoying as they are, I've got kind of used to having them around and feel they should probably have proper seats which point in the right direction. So I need a 5 door 110, hopefully already converted to something more sensible than the old TD. 30mpg sounds positively frugal after my time at the filling station with the Delica.
I kind of worry about rotten chassis, are they all made of brown paper at that age? And blowing head gaskets - the Mitsubishi 4M40 engine is the biggest load of ****e which ever left the sunny shores of Japan and has left me with deep pyschological trauma and head gasket related anxiety.
Anyway, have to polish my turd of a truck and sell it - then I will actively be in the market. Hopefully you'll see me around here for a few years to come asking annoying questions.
