Im looking at getting a new jack, my trolley is starting to get long in the tooth, slight weeping of seals etc.

Just wondered if a hi-lift, when used with axle stands is any good for maintenence?
Ill keep the trolley for those bits that are easier with one, like getting bits out, applying pressure where needed etc,

I already carry a bottle for wheel changes/emergencys.

It should only be used to lift but if your going to put onto axle stands its fine, I wouldnt do any maintanance just on the jack as the slightest nudge and it can go...

i agree with jon, unless you chock the wheels they can be a bloody liability tbh . have had a few bad ni on dangerous mishaps :(

I only ever do maintenance with it on axle stands, don't trust jacks by themselves (had that hammered into me by my dad since I was about 6 "helping" him with his S2),
My trolley has started slowly sinking under load, guess a seal has gone somewhere, thought a hilift might also be of some use when out laning.

Aldi or Lidl are doing 2tonne trolley jacks for £19.99 this week, I know that's not what you're asking but they could be alright for some.

i wouldnt trust a hilift to do anything more than a spare wheel change and that would only be if i didnt have a bottle jack handy..

yes ive got one as im sure most people do but i hardly ever use it and prob never will tbh

there dangerous and in the wrong hands can be lethal

They're good for pulling out tree stumps, if you can't get a Landy close to it.

other than that they're a menace.

They are ok to lift onto stands but your totally right they are dengerous, I am cautious with them and I use various lift/jacks for a living, if it's home work I would use a bottle jack and lift on the axles

We had to use one Sunday to do a tyre, was balanced on a waffle board and it was interesting to say the least...

NO to unstable for maintenance don't use it for anything other than recovery the consequences are fatal

are these still a handy thing to have on your landy then, for the get out of jail scenario in a field somewhere, or better thrown away!!

NO NO keep it it dose have its uses but you must respect that it is not as stabal as a ground
Jack I have first hand experience of my car falling off the hi lift whilst changeling a wheel

I use mine a fair bit, but only to lift up onto stands etc. Wouldn't ever work under one, even as a secondary support. Lift, prop and take off

well am hoping it has its uses as just picked one up, need to figure best way to mount it, and where, now.

I've just been looking to get a bottle jack for wheel changes but I already have a hi-lift which came with the landy. Reckon I should just get an axle stand and carry that around with me instead of the bottle? Then if I get a flat use the hi-lift to get it up onto the axle stand (don't fancy changing with it balancing on the hi-lift)

Ur gonna hoist the landy up in the air and Leave it balanced on an hi-lift while ya crawl under it to stick an axle stand in position???
