I'll be doing a lot of reading before any meaningful posts I think, Im just looking into the the pros and cons of landy ownership.
My dad used to have landys, and I love them, but I have 3 kids and a business, so the rover would be my only vehicle, so wanted to scope out reliability, issues etc, I seem to remember ours been off road (as in broken) quite a bit, and need to know if it was bad luck, or the way things are with these vehicles.
I only cover 8k a year, so its not going to be a high mileage job, but still want it to start, and get me there when I jump in in a morning (within reason)

Ideally, I want a station wagon, any age, (although I do like the SIII wagons...) been loking, and something im my pric range seems to be those in the mechanically sound, but body needs some tlc catagory,

You should find a very decent 200/300 tdi Defender for under 5K ... just need to be aware of the critical bits when viewing.
Oh and :welcome2:to the asylum ;)

cheers, does me wanting a station wagon not push it up a little bit? thee does seem to be less of them around.
Re: the critical bits, that what I'm on here for, research what those critical bits are...

did see a very nice SIII s/w in a local dealers, shame it was 15K!!! (was a full ground up pro restore, 0 mile engine)

15k for a complete SIII restoration ... you just wouldn't drive it at that price!

A Station Wagon will probably put the price up a little but not much. Main critical bits to look for are structural rather than mechanical. You need to pay particular attention to the chassis, especially rear crossmember and outriggers.
The bulkhead is also very prone to corrosion. Pretty much everything else is repairable with a little use of Landyzone expertise ;)
The search button will give you answers to most common questions and Busterbus has compiled a superb photo guide of most repair jobs.
Have fun and remember, always keep a grand spare, you'll need it :p
