hi all again

driving home last night ,every time i pressed the break pedal there was a clicking /scraping noise from back passanger side wheel/brake

im assuming the break shoes on the back must be low? or maybe a spring or something has come loose??

is this a common thing? i cant do anything till at least tuesday because of work ,if it is just a spring snapped or loose are they easy / quick to fix or are they a ball ace?

do the drums norm come off easy ?

griff

Ive had this before and when stripped it was just a good clean they needed brake dust and rust getting places it shouldnt..

drums come of fairly easy slacken of the handbrake cable first
personally I wouldn't wait till Tuesday deffo wouldn't drive it no brakes costs lives
certainly will do more harm than good im sure

well had a hr today before it was dark ,so looked at the rear breaks

what a #### the first drum was to get off lol ( looks rusty and fu,ked tomorrow im going to flappy paddle the lip on the drum )

off after alot of swearing at it

def not low pads like i thought it may be !! as same as handbreak cable the last owner had put new on just before he sold it ,
heres the problem !! the clips where not fitted correctly !!! and bent

thought i better check other side too, every thing this side new :)

strange ,new cable, springs, piston and shoes but old ****ty drums think he must of got pis.ed off with spending money lol

glad you go it sorted got all the bits to do mine now, new shoes new cylinders new spring sets to go on as soon as it stops raining long enuff to give me a chance

quick up date

clips now fitted correctly !

checked everything was working ie adjuster etc

quick flappy paddle around the lip

all done wheel back on and went for a test drive

reversed out onto road while pumping the handbreak to adjust it up

perfect no more strange noises and breaks and hand brake working fine :)

very easy to do ,just wish old owner had done it proply first time then i would not of had to lol

what did you do to the retaining clips it looks like you have bent them over when they should be strait

done my rear shoes cylinders and all new clips and springs gave everything a good old wire brush and clean up first before fitting allworking present and correct now and no more scraping noises
sorry no photos camera battery was flat

thats how the clips are on my car ,the shape etc is just how they where ,i must admit the ones on the other side are totaly dif to these ones ,but ive seen some just like these on a old rover 200vi (1999 model if i remember correctly )i worked on

for future ref :there is a hole in the back plates, and using a screwdriver allows you to wind back the adjusters enabling easier removal of the drums.

without seeming patronising, I know how to take a break drum off ,ie use the adjusters to make it easier to remove when backed off

dont want to tell you how to suck eggs just trying to help:eek:, when adjusters are backed off the drums come off easy, they get stuck on the unworn section of the drum, so maybe back them off fully next time :D
