This landy is starting to really wind me up was driving home when the temp light started flashing tbh I was not paying much attention to the temp as it's always on half or below so I pulled over opened water bolt very carefully was like a kettle to find it half full with what looked like snow balls in the bottle hard and big White **** as I was on motor way I put some more water in a drove it half mile to garage where it was then empty again kind of looks like water is coming out off bottom of Rad any ideas as to what this White stuff is

Could be the joys of oil and water mixing. Head gasket, craced block, oil cooler.

Hmmm water that was still bottle didn't look like it had oil mixed what ever the stuff is it very hard I took the water bottle off and banged it out kind of looks like big clumps of limescale
 
sounds like some one doesn't de-scale enough lol. To be honest it could well be 1 or more of things said about above. Best case its the rad, or head gasket. Not a bad job todo. If you hgave the tools and mr Haynes your set
 
May be I need to by some Calgon lol think the water leak is coming from the bottom of the rad and it's a fairly new one checked the oil cap and theres no Mayo not sure how quick it builds up when hg has gone
 
tdis dont commonly put mayo in rocker box if hg fails ,check rad is hot all over and if it isnt or is leaking replace it ,cooling system needs checking regulary ,level by removing bungs especially one on thermostat housing ,level in expansion tank doesnt necessarily mean engine is full ,
 
first step then would be to get the rad replaced if it is leaking. Make sure that its not one of the pipes leaking, and running down, or across. After that get a local garage and find out how much they charge for a sniff test to see if there are hydrocarbons present in the coolant. Or a pressure test. The sniff test will let you know 100% if its a h/g failure, the latter will show if there is leaks anywhere in the coolant system, wether it be h/g,cracked block, or hrad, or leaking pump,pipes,or rad
 
I would suspect someone has used some form of leak sealant stuff in the system and that is what the white stuff is esp if you suspect the rad has a leak.
 
Last night when it was running the rad had water in and was hot could not really see where water was coming from it was to dark the water I think was getting round the engine as when i filled it up the heaters was hot then when the temp light flashed the heaters went cold and was out of water again I'm really hoping it's the rad or bottom pipe the rad is only 5 months old tho the White clumps worry me incase they have broken down and gone round the system

Had this on a di Vectra one, once started the coolant bottle would drain and stay empty, as soon as you switch off the engine the coolant would come back, do the max level. bleed it even topped it up when running. Replaced the water pump as it was fine after that. Din't have whale sperm balls in the header thou.

what sort of size is that?
(optical illusion, but it looks like the size of the tank cap there)

only thing i can come up with atm is the inside of the header tank is breaking up
