Hello,

Sorry for another of what might seem a silly question.

I have just refitted both axles on the disco1 along with new springs and dampers .
Next job in hand is to renew the copper brake pipes (flexi hoses purchased already)

Where i need the help is:
what size pipes and fittings are required to udertake the job and where to purchase them?
 
any motorfactors. Just take an old fitting in & measure the brake pipe or take a piece in to motor factors with you.
 
ebay No 300691069158 is what I have, which is fine for doing a few small jobs, I replaced two full vehicles worth of pipes so far and loads of others.

However, the grippers wear quite quickly, so be prepared to fettle them a bit or buy a better quality set to start with, but prices seemed to jump from less than £50 to way above £100 ...
 
Not used that type of flare so won't comment. ;)
 
i have used that kind of kit. i found it ok to use but i only used it for the small pipes between flexi and caliper on the front. still have loads of pipe and fittings left over if i ever need to replace any more bits.

I only need to do the one vehicle so the kit may be ok but having not done the job before I'm a bit unsure.
Once again I'm having a few problems with getting a mobile mechanic to do the job for me at the right price. One guy quoted me £180 just to replace brake pipes on the rear axle.
 
I went to Halfords, bought the flareing tool, pipe and fittings, watched some " How to" videos on U Tube, then a couple of practice flares and finally the pipes for my back axle.
It was easier than I thought and cost me about forty quid, give it a go.

Yea it will be even better if i could get someone to do it for me as im pushed for time with other bits that need doing.
 
I understand that you want things done quickly, I discovered I needed new pipes on a Sunday lunchtime and I was due to leave home at 3am on Monday with a three and a half hour drive to work.
It took me three hours to buy the stuff, work out how to use it, make and fit the pipes then bleed the brakes.
