Hi, been out freeing the brakes on the landy and have found that there is no anchor plate fitted on the back either side, can someone please tell me if these anchor plates are needed on the front too ( the plate that clamps the shoes together at the bottom)

Have you got any photos? And what is it, an 88" or 109"?

If they are the anchor plates im thinking of are they the round one with 2 little bolts holding it on? My 88" on original 10" drums has them front and back

I believe twin leading shoe is twin slave cylinder but I could be mistaken

Yeh 88" didn't have any on the back, lucky I've got to spare axels and they have them on, and yes it's the round one with 2 small bolts. Are these needed for front then?

Thanks, answered my question. Can't understand why I have never had those anchor plates fitted in the first place

Because whoever did the brakes last time couldn't be bothered to put them back...

I can't see it being a big problem, tbh - yes, it should be there, but once the drum is on, there's no way the shoes can come off the support at the bottom - there just isn't enough movement.

The anchor plate stops the shoe chatterring ie each time you brake it tries to rotate forward .The other shoe is just pushed onto the post.
Not such an issue in reverse as usually not travelling at high speed.
Remember to put the ring so the bolts are in the trailing shoe.

Ah! That makes sense...

Thanks you lot, the problem I've had by not having the plate on there is that the shoes have twisted under pressure and snapped the small lug off that holds the spring in place
