Hi, needing some serious help! Just purchased discovery 2 TD5 2000 with 134k. Theres a very loud noise kind of like whine grinding whirling noisy when I put the clutch down. Gears are fine to select! It also makes same noise when clutch is released. What can it be !!!!! Thanks

release bearing maybe, althou it would be there all the time, but stranger things have happened

if noise clears when foot right down and when you start to press its spigot bush,if noisy at all times pedals pressed its release bearing

Thanks very much! Thought it was release bearing but the noise is so bloody loud it made us think it could be something to do with the gearbox!what and where is the spigot bush? Is it expensive to buy?difficult to fit? Planning on doin clutch tomorrow, don't want to have to try move that gearbox more than once! Cheers!!!

I Hope the clutch change went ok, if you don't mind me asking was it a lot of drama cos I may need to change a spigot bush soon.

Ok thanks. Do I need a special tool to remove the bush? What's the best method? Cheers

I assume you know that to replace the spigot bush you need to separate the gearbox from the engine?

To replace the spigot bush, first find a cylinder shaped object such as a bar or bolt that fits snugly into the bush; now pack the empty spigot bush with grease and use your cylinder/bolt and continually tap it into the bush until the grease drives the bush out.

Whilst the gearbox and engine are separated I would strongly advise putting in a new clutch kit complete, as the biggest part of the job is labour and a clutch kit is only about £80 to £100.

Thanks Dave, yes I know the box has to come off, thanks for the tip about removing the bush.
