I hate bodge jobs, least you'll know it's been done properly when you've finished.
well had a quick chance to play again today
decided to take the dif plate off and change the dif oil ,was a #### to get at the top bolts but got it off
quite a bit of metal filings in there :-(
but to be honest i think thats the first time in years its been taken off looking at the colour of the oil
not to sure what gasket sealant was on there but #### me its not easy to get off
will get a razor blade tomorrow to scape the dif housing
as for the teeth none seem to have chunks missing even thought there was more metal filing than i like
cant do anymore at car till i get the razor so tried scaping the cover in the kitchen and get all the bolt threads clean

while i took the bikes out of the car i noticed a puddle of water on the back shelf
i no its a common prob by all accounts ,so ran my fingers along the rubber seal above the window ,i was thinking the seal must of gone
but as i ran my fingers along this fell out
im assuming this must of been leaking for yrs and looking at this when i get a new seal and remove the top window cover/surround im most likely going to find another big ####ing hole
i must say antill owning one myself i would never of thought landrover would rot like they do !!!!!

In short - No.
Seal is fitted on glue, if you try to remove it it will be destroyed.
As you can see it will be rip off. . If you got water inside you should remove all three finishers (new fixings for them will needed), remove alu profile over the top and seal mounting points
Those five spots for bolts above seal.
also you can check that sealant is complete on upper and side edges
Those photos come from time when i replace tailgate seal.

I have used black marine grade silicone on the same roof trim on my hard back , the trim doesn't flex as much as it did , dont like silicone as a rule but can recommend the marine grade .right had a quick look ref seals and wow #### me there def not cheap :-(
