Well after I struggled with the modulator brackets and my own stupidity I finally got the thing out. I really have no clue how to open it up and take a look inside. Anyone done it and wouldn't mind throwing me a few pointers? I tried asking the chap in OZ, you know the one who sells the washer kit but he declined because he sticks a CD in with the washers and he's worried about it.

Rasheed, part of my business income is via the BMR kit which I researched, developed and marketed. I don’t release it for free and it is subject to copyright laws.

The irony of course is that I was / am quite happy to buy his kit, I just wanted to open the modulator first to take a look inside!

I am sure the internals of an ABS modulator would be beyond the scope of home maintenance...alsorts of valves, springs, seals, galleries, etc etc...

Unless of course yours is scrap then go for it.....

Lots of folks in the good old US of A have replaced the valve discs in the modulator sucessfully with the kit from OZ:):)

Fair Game...never had one apart...just thought they would be a bit like the Autobox Valve Block....whilst DIY'able...not for the faint hearted...

Someone has posted photos on here of how to change the cracked washers search would be good maybe.

That's what I'm trying to do. Saint is right too that its a bit scary to contemplate. However I need someone who's done it before to come in and comment, not you nattering old wimmin... :behindsofa:

Aww yuh knows I luvs yuh! :lvkiss-106:

Ok pics attached of where I've got to. Knocked out two locking pins and removed the plunger that attaches to the brake pedal. All seems smooth and tidy this end. Inside the housing is a sort of X and the end of another plunger. I imagine I have to get this out somehow but don't know how. For the moment it travels back and forth (in and out) but not very smoothly, bit of a gravelly feel if you know what I mean.

Oh hi Wammers. Did do a search, several infact and there's pages and pages of waffle but I didn't find the one you mean. You wouldn't possibly have a linky?

Keith I did. Its mostly pump and accumulator there. Also been to the original Aussie forum where Russell Botha first appeared.

Yes this chap

Hello gents,

Recently I had a vehicle bought to me with no brakes!!I removed the brake modulator and started to strip the unit down. What I found was quite scary. An internal component made of plastic had failed, this rendered the car with zero brakes. I have been told by LR and Wabco that no parts are available and the units are unserviceable. This is rubbish!!!!!I have a Range Rover Dianostic business equiped with faultmate MV system(thanks Hardy)and have engineered stainless steel components to replace the plastic parts. A new modulator is around $6000.00aus plus fitting and more than likely an ABS pump at $2500.00aus. I was quoted $9500.00aus by LR to complete the above.
As we all know many older P38's can now be purchased for 12 to $15000.00. Spending $10000.00aus to fix your brake problem would for most be out of the question.
I have now fixed 5 of these problems in the past 3 months, all had th exact same internal failure. If your pedal feels at all strange or you have had intermittent warning lights please do something about it. The 5 that I have fixed all by luck avoided an accident. I believe that age is the contributing factor not klm's. All the cars have been 95/96 HSE's with varied klm's.A second hand unit is only a short term fix as they also have the same plastic component up to mid 99 when all the BMW bosch changes happened.
If you would like to discuss this with me please e-mail me at rx007.car@bigpond.com.
This has been posted on other sites to allow owners to be aware of this fault and repair the unit before it fails.

Regards
Russell Botha

Keith I will be, next week. Why I want to get this sorted so its ready when I come back again.

Someone on here has bought the kit from Aus and posted pictures of the strip and rebuild of the washers at least. I am almost sure of that or at least posted pictures from somewhere of the operation. And quite recently as well. :)
Yes I remeber but I can't find it picture's as well ,I remember he was asking how to clean the inside still looking ;)
