The original oil was a mix of 10/40 and 15/40. After that, straight 15/40, didn't make any difference.
I've been and picked up my new pack of 10 rocker shaft bolts from my local indy specialist (Britpart, OEM items lol) and picked their brains about my noise while I was there.
In their opinion, I should flush it with Forte engine flush (which I've now bought but not used yet) and use the proper recommended oil which apparently is 10/40, semi synthetic (either way, its all 40 weight oil, just flows better when its cold).

Now my head is fooked because I've got no idea what to do for the best.

EP90 for the cam and 15/40 in the sump, the thickest recommended by the manufacturer. I couldn't have given it a much better shot except use moly slip or similar on the cam although EP90 would have been enough.

Lifters sticking in (3 of em, 4 weeks apart). That my fault too? ****part!

Well thinking about it logically, if they went quiet at first then later on got noisey, it is most likely particals from the oil seizing them or being deposited on the ball valve holding it open. Did you try stripping them and cleaning them out. Were they just stuck in or were they gored on the cam contact area? Because if any were gored it is odds on the cam is damaged. They being a lot harder than the cam.

Never were really what I would call quiet from the start. The ones that were stuck in were just stuck in, no other issues.

I can see me doing the cam and lifters again just to set my mind at rest although it can wait till next Summer before it gets em.
Fingers crossed for the oil flush though, Forte is supposed to be the dogs danglies.

so you need to change yer sig back to "fooked" then m8?

That bad news sorry to hear it mate!!

You should just bin it and buy a classic :D

Nah, tappets are spot on for the first time I think, its this damn knock under load thats got everybody stumped.
Was underneath it yesterday under the sump while it was running and its quiet as anything, not a sound although go up top, drivers side and putting my ear near the rocker cover, can hear noise but could be coming from anywhere.

The car is fine, doesn't seem to be riddled with the other issues, only the engine so when the time comes to replace it, bang in a 3.9, fit a dizzy and away we go.

Happy days.

good news, can you here the noise form in the car?

I have noises thet come and go, just part of driving a landy :p

Can't hear it at all with the windows shut and radio on a low to mid level.
Hardly notice with just the windows shut. Watch it be a little end the bassa. Whatever it is, its gonna get run till it blows or shows itself now,
I've done enough for the time being and it seems reliable, runs good enough to pass for OK so thats that and it'll stop when it stops (must remember to join the RAC).

I know, it shouldn't but if it dies while I'm in it, sods law says I'll be hundreds of miles away.

BTW, I did an engine flush, changed the filter, changed the oil for 10w/40 (as manufacturers spec) and........ITS FIXED. Quiet as you like, no knocks under load and just as it should have been 6 weeks ago.

Waiting for the next thing to go wrong now lol.
