theres a guy by us that USED to do them. but not sure if he still does. remember, ive been out the country for a few years :)

but i think any good auto electrician should be able to do it at a fair price.
unless it is screwed inside.

ahhhhh! thats a different matter :D:D:D

it is a job you could do yourself. its only a few screws to undo and slide it apart to clean inside. maybe replace the bushes and give it a good greasing inside on the slider. no more than an hour i would say.
 
That's what I mean. After all he's only got a sticky starter so it all works, it just needs a service.
I do it all the time at work but get funny looks from most of the others as they order up a new motor.
 
thats the problem with young techs now. its easier for them to fit a new 1 rather than find out whats wrong and how to repair the old 1.

Don't know about that but I seem to remember getting my starter motor out was a real pain. Those nuts on the back of the bell housing were a pig to get to to stop the bolts turning. I don't want to do it twice in a hurry.

On the other hand, if a new starter is over £120 then pass the spanners and let's get cracking!

Does nobody strip, repair and service things anymore?
They don't come much simpler than a starter.

Fitting a new solenoid is easy and is the usual failure item, if you can get the part. The rest of the starter is not a simple as it looks, minor bearing wear that you might not detect without experience can cause the motor to jam.:)
