Got her all back together, fired up fine, then this happened:

I don't think I've ever shut an engine off so quickly in my life!! It was pishing out of the oil cooler pipes where they enter the oil filter housing. Both had an o-ring on, both seemed fully home, and the bracket is tight.

What have I done wrong??

I wouldn't jet wash that or you will lose all the sand between your mono blocks. I had a discovery do the same thing on the motorway. Both brake discs got sprayed with oil so a very slow to stop on to the hard shoulder. I just replace both the pipes and it was fine

From the photo, it looks like the right hand pipe is not correctly seated.
Mop up the oil and then put a thick coat of biological washing powder on what remains, might have to do it more than once, but it should get rid of the worst of it.

Sorted - you were right Data (as always) - RH pipe (which I couldn't see properly) wasn't all the way in. Slackened everything off, wiggled about, reseated, works fine.....

Now for the 6 litres of oil all over my drive...

I'm beginning to get the feeling I shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a spanner.....

"what have I done wrong...."

1) bought a P38

2) attempted to fix it on Friday 13th

3) bought a p38

4) posted on here without checking first ;)

5) bought a p38

6) wasted 6ltrs of oil!

7) bought a p38

List goes on.....

Cheers Paul! Made me smile!! (Glad u sorted it thou!!)

All i can say clarky your a real trier good luck to you mate hope you get it all sorted, One good thing at least it looks like you got some good tyres! :)

From the colour of the oil it looks like a change was due anyway:behindsofa:

It was.... but that was 6 ltrs of brand new Mobil 1 on my driveway... obviously mixed with the old oil! Scary how quickly it pumped 6 ltrs out... at least I know there's nowt wrong with me oil pump!

Cement powder is my choice for cleaning up oil spills on slabs/pawing - sweeps up nicely - keep putting more on & cover so i doesn't rain on it.
