Hello, I,m the proud owner of a 1988 '90. It's my first vehicle as I'm 17. I've only had it two days and on the way to work plumes of smoke came out from under the bonnet and when I opened it there was lots of oil on the passenger side of the engine. When I took the oil filler cap off there was smoke coming out. The air filter has oil in it and after taking off the pipe from the turbo there were traces of oil there too. On checking the oil stick it did seem to be a bit over-filled so I've drained a bit down to the 'N' level. Does anyone know what the problem is and is this serious? I only just managed to save up for the vehicle so I'm really hoping it's not terminal!

Thats terrible news:eek: I'd say its really fooked:rolleyes: Give ya £50 for it;):D

probably just tomuch oil in it and it's been forced out of the dipstick tube. or filler cap make sure oil is at the correct level and try again. If it still does it then either the piston rings are worn and or the oil feed pickup filter gauze is blocked and needs cleaning (drop sump)

Might be worth doing a full oil change. That way you know the oil and filters are new, theres not too much oil in it and the oils the right type. Also the dipstick might be showing as over oiled cos it might have been deep wading.

Thanks for your help lads! Found out the head gasket went!
I dont think ill sell it to 'Ilson lad' for £50 tho!
