Should start without the glow plugs, does the light come on on the dash?

Yes I have put a tester on one of the plugs... No power,I don't know where the relay is to check that
I don't know on the 2006 L322, but on my P38 it's in the same box as the engine ECU. If the light doesn't not come on, it could also be the engine temperature sensor.

Glow Plug Timer Relay is in the E-Box under the bonnet (big black box with a lid secured with a few dome headed bolts!)

Or at least check the mains power into the relay and the control signal for the coil !

Swapping stuff out can start costing big money

Fuse is a big 100A jobbie....find that and check, as the others have said check fuse and feed first!
