Hi all hope a few of you can help me out... I currently own a Disco 1 300tdi 3 door which i am selling to get a 5 door. I'm stuck on if to get another 300tdi or a TD5 as they are newer, I don't do extreme off road just the odd day here and there i mainly drive flat muddy fields shooting/hunting. Think i really have my mind set on a TD5 but heard a few bad things about them, can anyone help me on what to look for if i go for one? All i will be doing to it is 265/75/16 insa special track tyres, 2" lift kit & polybush kit (maybe a upgrade winch bumper) would be very grateful on any comments or advise also which lift kit i would need for a TD5 as i hear they are air suspension?!? If you have no advise could you leave me a comment either TD5 or 300tdi as to what you would get for what i want it for. Many thanks for taking the time to read this, Lewis

Me personally iv had them both, my pref is the disco 2, it feels like an all together different animal. Not knocking the disco 1 at all their great too. I have owned a td5 for 5 years now, if your handy with the spanners, & willing to have a go, then you'll save some dollers. You only ever hear about the bad news, not good, so don't let the banter put you off buying one. It's like anything else, anyone can pick up a dog all be it a disco 1,2,3, fender, rangey even a TOYOTA lol.

Hi Lewis, If that's all you plan to use your next Disco for, I would go for another TDi 300. The TD5 is a better vehicle overall, but it sounds like something more basic would fit your needs best.

I have had the 300TDi 4door, and used it for the very purpose you are wanting. It was amazing both in getting out to prep the decoys and in recovery of "lost" birds. I found it a better driving experience, better "feedback" through the wheel etc etc.
I have had a TD5 (2001) for the last three years and have found this equally able. The TD5, obviously has more power but I find it restricted slightly by the air springs, at the back end. The TD5 has more comfort, more gizmos and more computers.
Overall, you will be well served with either vehicle. Just check the back half of the chassis of the TD5 (especially) as it is harder to get to than the 300TDi, for welding repairs.

For what you have described, i cant see the point of Special Tracks, It sounds like a set of all terrains would be more suited to your needs. is the vehicle going to be your daily driver too?
