Hi All,

I have a 300tdi, I need to light up from the rear of the vehicle, to illuminate a field to reverse in PITCH BLACK !

I was thinking of a roofrack with a couple of 100 watt spots ?

Anyone with a good idea ? Done it before ? Or a rack for sale ?

Any help would be appreciated....:)Thanks

If you dont need a roof rack i'd be tempted to just make up a light bar few bits of box section steel and you could clamp it to the gutter like you would a roof rack. few hours work tops. Then just wire the spots via a relay to a switch on your dash. simples :)

Lamps on the roof are fine but if its tricky stuff your driving through then you might want to see the ground at the wheels, and couple of work lamps that can be positioned in any position you need might be a good idea.
 
first time you go off road/laning you run the risk of losing/breaking anything on the roof..so if youre gonna put em there make sure they're on collapsible hinges..
 
I fitted 2 X 55w wipac work lights direct on the roof, no bars. Get small enough lights and they stay below roof line and fit in the bit above and to side of door

Ran a feed from boot area, with relays behind speaker cover, with a seperate switch on the dashboard, so I can turn them on or off either from back or front,
MORE than enought light to reverse on, 1 AM in forests of Scotland and Cumbria type stuff and for rally work 100 W's would be over kill

If you want I'll post photo of back of elmer and provide wiring diagram
 
I mounted a search type flood light to my spare wheel (swing away type). works well and doesn`t stick up beyond roof line.
Brilliant for reversing. I wired mine to the reverse light via a relay so it`s automatically engaged when I hit reverse! It also has a switch directly on it so I can turn it on manually if needed.
 
CB radio gutter mount ariel bracket,regular spotlamps,relay switched,wire through gap in door pillar panel.
 
I had trouble reversing in the dark, so i have just fitted a pair of worklamps to mine.



I made a simple bolt on clamp that fits the gutter from a bit of folded sheet steel with 2 6mm nuts welded to it. I binned the orginal bolt on mounts that came with the lamps.



Not got them wired up to the reversing lights yet though. They only cost me about £25 for the pair

Put a extra switch on them so if someone tail gates(gets to close) flip the switch to warn them:D
