Rotational play is normal, there's a lot of components each with a little free pay and it adds up...... so long as there's no nasty clunks and the vibration has gone you're sorted

Could be wear anywhere from end of crank to drive flange and anything in between....probably a little wear everywhere inbetween.
One thing worth checking is that the handbrake isn't binding. If it is the resistance takes up the slack in the drive when you take off the power and you get a substantial clunk when applying power again
