Right I have a d2 with 18 inch alloys I have bought 16 inch alloys but need the bigger nuts.
I know that d1 and d2 have different hubs fitment etc but will d1 nuts fit a d2!
I would venture that you've done something wrong here, possibly purchased the wrong 16" rims.
I have a D2 which I run on the original 18" alloy rims with normal tyres during the warmer weather and 16" alloy rims with cold climate tyres between November and May.
I use the same wheelnuts when I change the wheels over with absolutely no difficulty at all. Remove wheelnuts, change over wheels, replace wheelnuts, job done.
The wheels fit correctly but the nuts have the same thread but are thinner if you know what I mean the one on the right is off my 18"s the left off the 16"s
Those 16 inch nuts do not look like any Disco wheel nuts I have ever seen. They look like wheel nuts that hold hub centred wheels. ABOVE is WRONG, got my LH and RH mixed up..........
Are the wheels you have std LR wheels?
I would say that the 16" wheels are a standard Disco 2 fit, as are the wheelnuts on the left in your picture.
I would go as far as to say that even though 18" wheels are also a standard fit on a Disco 2, your particular 18" wheels and the wheelnuts on the right might be an aftermarket supplied set. I would even say that the tyre size in your picture isn't the LR recommended size either.
Got the pictures off Google basically the hole in the wheels for the nuts have a bigger diameter in the 16"s and smaller in the 18"s if ya know what I mean

D2 wheel nuts, look identical to D1 wheel nuts. BUT the thread iirc are not the same. I had 20 old D1 wheel nuts from a previous car and thought I would use 4 of them to get rid of the locking wheel nuts on my D2, on inspection , they look the same externally but the threads were different.
