It's not the work that's getting on my tits, actually I think it's pretty well settled with a mortgage on my tits, it's the fact I can't do #### all about it. I could have it fixed today if only I could get down there with everything I need.

Between that and the general anxiety of house hunting this has been a **** month. It'll be worth it eventually but right now it's all arse and no play.

You need a period of stress free "Freelander" ownership. I think I'm just bored with mine - longest I've ever kept a car. I'm sure you'll get it sorted but understand the frustration of it being miles away.

Too right mate. I think, maybe, once this cooling issue is sorted and I've got a new VCU on there that may be the end of the immediate problems. Once that's sorted it's on cosmetics like gettin ris of rusty chips and sprucing up the interior a bit.

OP, was thinking of your post whilst sat waiting for a recovery truck this afternoon. Bought my TD4 in feb, I have never known a vehicle need so much to keep it going! So far it's had new IRD & VCU recon inc fitting £1020. 4 x new tyres (reason the IRD exploded!) £400. 4 x 4 track £50. Rear window regulator £56. Track rod ends, diff bush, turbo vac hose inc labour & diagnostics £175. still got to sort the fish tank tool holder in boot and a bloody strange bearing whine that no one seems able to pin down. Today, full service, mot and new pads. Got half way home and phone rings, pulled in, had a good natter for half hour and the cow won't start! The normally noisy fuel pumps deathly silent :-(

So if your a competent DIYer, crack on! If your a cack handed gimp (like me) that can barely change a plug. Expect to pay Through the nose!

Further to my questions. I have enlisted the help of a old freind who is a mechanic. And have already done a service. My new straight through box as suggested by WLJayne. And all he does is watch and moan at me when i do something wrong. My lock up looks like a small garage workshop. And me mate is so into this project now he has started doing bit to his motor along side me. We are going to take a proper look at the prop shaft this weekend. And he thinks that bearings are the trouble. He assures me this isnt a bad job. So thats my next project. Hey and above all. He thinks the motor is a cracker, but he has a a few motor and one is a 1930's american pick up truck. And that drives for about 50 miles before it blows something. Looks nice though. Lol, so was just to say i am sticking with her and am hooked to her after the snow. She was awesome in that.

Well done for sticking at it mate . Funny how you and your mate are tinkering with your own motors that's what me and DD tend to do - there's always something that's fooked on our Hippo's and he has a few other cars aswell lol. It seems to be a universal "bro-time" activity !!
