I'm trying to fit an x-brake to my 2a. The instructions very helpfully say to "dismantle drive flange" so you can replace the six bolts. I've managed to get the big circlip off (not sure how or how I'll get it back on again) but there's a metal cover (which is shown off in their photo, top left) and I'm not sure how to get the bugger orf. I've left it soaking in penetrating oil while I have some supper and hopefully it'll prise off, but any advice welcomed!

Cheers JM, just a bit seized on then (like most things on Itchy!)

Bit o' pork curry then I'm back at it!

if it's like the defender, that circlip is a sod to get back on without some good circlip pliers

yes plier holes are slightly tapered smaller side goes to pliers ,makes them hard to remove again if fitted wrong

Big vice and biggest crowbar and a bit of swearing and it was offed! All back together now and I've got a handbrake that not only holds on a hill but is capable of stalling the enjun! Whoop-whoop!
