Black 2003 1.8I Serengeti according to profile, I reserve my comments until more experienced members have expressed theirs :)
Welcome to the Forum, expect quite a lot of stick as the 1.8 is not the best of engines but water and ducks back is the best route to take.

Yeah, 1.8 isn't the best. Didn't have the cash for the td4. Head gasket was changed by th previous owner though.

Enjoy your new motor, could be years before something goes wrong, if it does then loads of good advice from very experienced members on this forum.

I wouldnt worry bout the Diesel elitist... :)

Headgaskets are a 20 minute job. If its just been done, hbolts , ladder rack and thermostat are done, then its a cheap easy job if it happens again. On the upside clutches are like half the price of the diesels and the clutch hydraulics can be done with the gearbox in. WooT WooT go petrols! (unless its a kv6, which i hate)

PS. Diesels are better :p

If the headgasket goes again and you are unable to DIY it will cost you about £500 plus, just be aware what to expect. There is a mod to the thermostat, check that this has been carried out or the gasket may fail again sooner rather than later.
