Can anyone help me through the huge aftermarket alternatives on offer? I have recently purchased, and love it! a 2002 defender country TD5 2495cc 3 doors which I would like to do some work on!

I’m planning to drive this around France this summer and possibility further into Europe at a later date. I use it currently in the UK on weekends and as a station car. I have no plans to take it seriously off road at this stage; it sees the mud very rarely, a great shame i know! Whatever I do I really don’t want to mess around with its ability to go off road if I can.

I’m looking to increase the power of this vehicle and if possible get rid on the slow response; I guess I’m looking for a more drivable car, its hard work as it is if I’m to be honest. Over taking is touch and go, I would like to make this more positive without losing its charm. I fitted a K&N filter and Australian snorkel a little while ago which made a little difference from memory.

I'm thinking of a remap and any other changes that would make a difference please, someone from there mentioned the removal of a cat in the exhaust manifold. Also I' told an intercooler may help?

Also can anyone recommend what shocks, springs, bushes would be ideal  to improve its road matters? I’m not looking for a racing car just better ride if possible and more power.

PS this is the best car I have purchased in years , I love the car but it needs a little help, me too!

Sell it and buy a volvo estate car or a small van. It'll do everything the td5 will do and more besides. If you don't need a 4x4 why buy one in the first palce.

Either talk to twisted performance if you loking to spend lots or super chips regardin a remap of the ECU to improve driveability, fuel economy and accelaration

If you're looking for more power do a Google for Defender stage tunes. There's lots of places in the UK that will do progressively more powerful stages of tune with appropriate "additional" considerations such as uprated intercooler etc. The same places will usually provide advice and components for suspension upgrades too.
As for overtaking...dontcher find that people just get out of yer way? If not...you need a winch and a bigger bumper plus some verrr bright lights. Works a treat for me. ;)

Get a disco transfer box fitted its a stright swap. Much better on road and better fuel consumption and ill take the old one off your hands if you if you dont need it

Cheers guys for your advice, stage 1, disco transfer box and bigger bumper on order. Redhand you need some help!

Are you offering. and if so are you any good at sorting brakes out. But seriously if you want a fast car. That you're not going to go offroad in. Why buy a Landrover. That's like spending the night with Angelina Jolie and having a ****.

Mmm, why buy a 90 if you want a fast car to tour france in?

Get a diesel estate or something ffs, if you start driving the 90 fast you'll be getting less than 25mpg with a fuel that within a few months is gonna cost you £1.50 a litre.

Even if your made of money thats still stupid when you could get an estate diesel with as much room as the 90 and 40+mpg.
