Hi All. Been a member of LZ for a while, but haven't introduced myself as I didn't actually own a Land Rover.
Have actually been waiting for my parents to get a new defender since January, but they kept getting messed about. They got one on Thurs, so I think it is time I said hi.
Spent the last 2 days cleaning it, here are some pics (hopefully).
Its been on the farm for the last 10 years which was one of the reasons I bought it as it was kind of one of the family.
Ok, so the defender is a 1998 300tdi as you can prob tell, one of the last ones. It has done 131,000 miles and is completely standard.
The plan is to keep it on the road over winter as I live on a steep hill, then next year when I have saved up enough money, start a re-chassis project. I will try to either renew or replace everything that I move over. The chassis is ok, but has had a lot of welding and will probably only get through one more MOT. I think the bulkhead is pretty sound.
Oh, and all 3 doors are pretty rotten...as is the diesel tank...
The end plan is to have something that I can go on a trek somewhere in, maybe Morocco or somewhere like that.
I have very minimal mechanical experience, so will probably have a lot of questions to ask. I will start a project thread so people can follow the progress.
