Hi all,
I just picked up my new TD5 defender 90 CSW defender on Thursday, I had every intention of viewing millions before I settled on the right one. But in the end the very first one I viewed was the right one. 'Buy with your head and not your heart' I kept saying but I fell in love and after two viewing I couldn't fault it. Brought with a full year's MOT with no advisories so that's a flying start!
I'm 20 so insurance was a shocker, first two companies I phoned gave me a quote of 5K and 10K!!! but Adrian Flux saved me at only £1,500 not too bad I thought, all cosmetic mods are free too.

Whilst on my travels I seem to be constantly issuing 'Landy waves', there's a lot around here (rural Buckinghamshire). And of course I drove to the complete other side of the carpark to park next to a fellow defender!

(BTW what's the best way to upload photographs?)

All the best,
Callum :)

Hello and Welcome Callum,

Sounds like you are enjoying Landy ownership.

There are a good few clubs around bucks so you should not be in short supply to find a few friends to go play with.

to load piccies, and we like piccies, use the upload a file button bottom RH side of the text box.

Cheers

thank you,
here's my new toy!

Nice and clean,

I assume you have had a god dig around underneath and checked the chassis. If you plan on going deep wading at any point , make sure your snorkel is working correctly.

Cheers

yeah, when i viewed it for the second time i wrote a checklist and went over everything. it's never been protected so come summer time (when its dry for more that 5 minutes) i'll blast out the chassis rails, and cavity protect etc.
as for the snorkel, I'll definitely do that. i don't plan on anything extreme, just green laning mostly during summer time.

Nice truck,

Get a pedal lock asap (see below) if you have not got one already.
Loads of chat on here about defender security (or lack of it)

Hi, a pedal lock is definitely top of the list, what do you think to the ones that fold flat to the floor?
I quite like the idea of that rather than removing it completely every time.

I would always recommend whatever you will still be bothered to use in three months time when the novelty has worn off. Personally half the time I never locked it let alone put loads of locking jobbers on. I bought a skytag for my defender and it's fair to say that it payed for itself....

I know that's what I'm thinking, like you say the first few months i'll be rigorous then i'll start thinking 'i'll only be a minute' etc etc.
I'm actually browsing the forum right now for what people think of trackers, 'Back2you' seems to come up a lot. is sky tag subscription based?
many thanks,
Callum

did not go for one because
1) yer foot slips about on top of it
2) PIAss to fit
3) mate bought one, lock jammed up before he even installed it, so gave it a swerve.

Got my one from Shire Fabrications, use it when parked up at home and every time I use the Def TD5.
  • Look at the Xeng gearstick lock
  • Fit a cut out switch and a loud alarm
If they can get stolen from Asda's car park or from a locked garage make it as hard and as noisy for them as possible. Trackers are only any good if you are prepared to track it yourself and batter the thieving scum when and if you find it. Police just don't have the time to turn on the equipment and not many of their vehicles have it installed now anyway. Remote monitoring companies will only following until it loses signal and get transferred into container, then they pull apart yer truck and find the tracker, pull the sim plant it in a dummy phone and attach it to side of some poor buggers car/truck/lorry. ask me how I know this! Pvt message me i'll explain more.
Sky tag uses GPS / GSM combination, (cellular phone networks) no signal ....no good.

For me i would rather not have to go through that nonsense in the first place, besides all they do is stick it in a foil lined container for a few months then its off to Europe or broken for parts.

PS "ill only be a min = truck gone! simple lock it everytime.

just ordered the pedal lock now,
what about steering wheel locks? they'll probably be the most visible deterrent.
thanks for your help,
Callum

disklok seems popular but also seen it removed on you tube in seconds with a cordless grinder.

The pedal lock and the Xeng is a good combo in my opinion and what I use.

Xeng for popping in shops / petrol garage etc I use both all other times.

If parked at home CCTV pointing straight at it
Clearly visible alarm light installed on dash (behind the binnacle glass, and not a cheap red led!) linked to Immobiliser / Alarm (Toad / Sterling thatcham approved and cheap v easy to fit)

It is indeed, got one on mine. If you do fit one leave the sheer nut in place for a week or so, make sure it starts every time as you have to move the imob ring on the TD5s
