Hi all,
Yesterday was a good day all in all.
Heater core o rings replaced and dash reassembled, all fine and dandy.

This morning, SRS Airbag fault showing so connected Nanocom to find
"Drivers Airbag open circuit" (current).

So, maybe a bad connection but I only disconnected SRS loom to instrument panel. Easy to check tomorrow.

Are there any other connectors I could have disturbed around the steering column / heater area ?
Maybe coincidence and the steering wheel cassette has gone tits up.
I love my P38 honestly.
 
Hi there,
Yes, battery disconnected and when reconnected all was ok, no Airbag fault. Drove approx 10 miles without problem. Switched on this morning and there it was.

Hi Tony, yep i would think one of the plugs under or around the steering,or the rail the cable runs along, in the lower dash area where you were working needs a wiggle or unplugged and cleaned,hope so anyway.;)
 
What year?

The later models ('99 onwards I think) with Pretensioners and seat side airbags, the wiring harness under the seat has been known to be a bit iffy...

Discon battery, and ensure the under seat yellow plugs are good, recon battery....most (if not all) SRS faults will need to be reset using the Nanocom (or other)

As it say's Drivers Airbag open circuit, I would bet on it being something you have disturbed. It won't be the under seat wiring as that is a side airbag. Check the plug is fully seated in the dash panel connector and look at the other connectors in the area.
 
Do you know what size screw I need to get to replace the b@stard stuck one? I suppose something with an allen key style head would be the best bet in case of future need for removal?
 
I was lucky with mine. It was very tight so I used a Cross head screwdriver with a hexagon on the shaft and used a small ring spanner to get extra purchase. Thankfully it moved without damaging the head. I think it is M5 x 40, hopefully someone can confirm.
 
I put an Allen head bolt in and a small amout of sealant on the o rings just to make sure.think the bolt was 5 mm. I also had to cut away a bit of the plastic cover in front of the bolt so I could get a straight purchase and put some weight on it. It was well stuck
 
Is it ok to remove and reconnect the SRS plug on the instrument panel / under dash without disconnecting the battery, as I don't want the ball ache of re-synching keys etc again.

Never had to re-sync keys when disconnecting the battery, just the radio code. The yellow wire to the instrument panel is not connected to the airbag but for safety always diss the battery when you are poking around under the dash, a face full of airbag could kill you.:eek:

for some reason after battery disconnection I have to re-synch both keys through the drivers door lock (hold lock button, turn and hold in lock position for several seconds).
It never works just putting the key in the ignition. Maybe the coil around the ignition barrel is not working.

Just ordered a screw remover kit. That screw is coming out this weekend one way or another!
