Anybody fitted heated seats in their landy if so how easy is it, wiring etc.

Looking at buying a pair of seats out of another make of car and fitting to the landy. The mounting is not a problem its how to tackle the wiring with the limited wiring fitted as standard to a 1991 90.
I may look at the heated windscreen also.

The answer is that you don't utilize the existing wiring but instead make up a bespoke harness to suit. Auxiliary fuse-boxes are widely available as well as a whole range of switchgear, relays, mountings & wiring accessories.
Decide on what you are going to fit (both now and in the future), how you are going to operate it (aux switch panel, Raptor or Mudstuff dash etc), where you are going to mount the new fusebox & relays and then the size & routing of the new cables not forgetting how you are going to protect the cables (corrugated conduit, PVC sleeving etc).
Think it out first, calculate current draw & cable sizes, then work out a plan (including cable & fusing diagrams and colour codes), order the items required (including crimping and/or soldering tools) and have an enjoyable day or two putting it all together.

As a follow on from my earlier reply, below are two versions of aux fuse & switchgear from my 90.
The first is from the initial rebuild so getting on for 14-years ago now.
Switches in the centre-panel, aux fusebox visible to the left of the main fusebox cover and the relays in the tool storage area of the battery-box (a second aux fusebox was also fitted in this area for items not located or switched from the dash).
The disadvantage of this set-up was that it meant extended cable routes between the switches, fuses & relays and of course there was a limit to the number of switches available but nevertheless it worked well for many years.
The second is what I changed over to about 2-years ago.
Very much more "in your face" but it is a far more practical set-up (for me though it might not suit someone else).
More room for switches in the Raptor console, relays & fuses are all grouped together and cabling is much reduced as only a single feed is required to the fusebox and then it is just a short distance across to the switches & relays.
I retained the second aux fusebox in the battery-box as that still serves a few items that aren't located on the dash.

Just put some in Mine.
I bought a stainless steel center switch panel from Fourby.co.uk
mine are xs half leather defender seats @ 30 amp so setup is as :-
inline blade fuse holder direct from battery to a 30 amp relay, then wire the other side to the live wire in the seat.earth wire of seat to earth. Then for the supplied switches that come with the panel you need a live that only come on with the ignition (green on cigrette lighter on mine(1994) top pin on switch !
Middle pin needs a wire running to the activation side of the relay.
other side of the activation switch on the relay returns a feed to the bottom switch pin and to an earth
you will need to do this twice one for each seat. my relays and most of the wirings are in the battery box

I just drilled and fitted the heated seat switches in the front of the seat box between the drivers and passengers legs, dead simple to run the wiring.
Waeco magicomfort kit? from ebay, mate bought some of the carbon pad ones and reckon they heat up much quicker than the waeco wire ones.

Interesting which ones are they? I have been thinking on this for some time now, in winter my defender defiantly needs some help calorie wise.

I have Mate. Mazda RX8 Seats bolt in relatively easy and the driver's side has full electric movement. Bloody brilliant too. Quite a few blokes have doen it on here, Huffhuff has made a wiring diagram and put it on one of my threads. They're only £100 on Ebay and leather too. Life changing!!

Got my kits fitted into the seats yesterday. Real easy job, didn't even unbolt the seats, routed the wiring nicely so the switches mount in the fuse box cover etc. What a change they've made, it was so much more comfortable first thing this morning. Wish I'd done it last year!!

They have on off for heat I believe. I haven't hooked up the heat yet but Huffhuff has and I think Vilguy too.
