Hi all.

On my Td4 Freelander iv'e noticed that when i put the heater on the firsrt setting, and indeed all. The rev's at tickover pickup slightly.

Is this normal? When the headlights or other stuff is switched on it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Could the battery be on it's way out or the alti...

Can you clarify exactly what control you are talking about?

The fan speed, or the temperature setting, or the distribution setting.

If you set the controls for window demisting the air-con will switch on automatically without any air-con button being pressed.

The extra load of the air-con compressor is noted by the ECU which then ups the revs a bit.

Could this be what you notice?

Hi Mulderke, well my Td4 does exactly that and has always done it , with engine on tickover switch on the heater fan and the revs rise slightly.
i know that if the vent position is to screen or screen and and footwell the air con will come on automatically no matter what the position of the air con button, so it may be the engine ecu compensating for the drag of the air con pump?

if its a post 2001 model then it's prob got a ceramic heater-if you turn temp knob past mid position the ceramic heater turns on drawing load from your alternator-hence higher engine revs

I think that if you have the heater direction control set to footwell only or facia vents then the air con will not automtically switch on but any setting which involves demist to screen the air con comes on , its seems a bit silly to me cos if you want air con on there is a button to press. I guess the only thing is disable the power supply to the air con system , maybe someone has done this ?

It's not so silly as you may think, as without the air-con the system will take much longer to clear the windows.

I think LR did it like that as most peeps think of the air-con as air-cooling only, and forget the air-drying possibility.

I run the air-con frequently even in the depths of winter and at the same time have the heat setting turned well up.

I wouldn't dream of disconnecting it - it saves me the trouble of having to remember to switch the air-con on, on frosty mornings.

think it's probably the ceramic heater though, if you listen really carefully, you'll hear the microswitch click at the same time as the revs change.

noticed this with mine, couldn't work out why turning the heat control up affected the engine revs, until I read the manual and all became clear.
