lol, gonna try and have a go on thurs if my boss gives me some time.

well he did and they now work!

I re-fitted the cleaned and tested orginal switch and still no fookin headlights but in the process I noticed summit I had missed in the dark last time which was one of the red wires had come out form the other side of the 4 connector block and I put it in so I had sides back.

then put the replacement switch out of the 79 in and taped up the connections and hey presto- all the lights are back!!

I also shimmed the door, I repaired, properly with some very clever ally shims I made which can be slid in from one side without taking the hinge back off so now it closes really nice- well for a 38 year old british car with massive doors anyway

wait till the hinges drop again...my new ones lasted 9 months..pooh..now its back to where it was...

its still on the same hinges, it was the front edge of the door that had rotted away , well its sorted now so we will see!
