If you wish to retain historical authenticity, Lucas was the inventor of the intermittent headlight. The cleaver use of bullet connectors and rotting earth points in areas prone to road salt encapsulates the true spirit of British motoring and is always worth preserving. Look on the bright side, you have some lights. This will not always be the case.

Funny thing is Bobsticle, that was exactly the problem, took off the rad grille and found two wires with very sorry looking bullet connectors (unconnected) hanging down. Removed bullets, cleaned up wires and crimped on two spades, and there was light!

When you have a mo. Rewire them on top of the panel rather than under it. Its no dryer but easier to give them a wiggle in future blackouts.

It's no good just connecting wires like that. Take a bit more time and do the job properly.....you will need this helpful tool to put the smoke back into the Lucas wires: http://www3.telus.net/bc_triumph_registry/smoke.htm

when I did my electrics all those bullet things just crumbled in my hands, absolutely rubbish things
