I have a disco 200 and the headlights aren't very bright at all. Is there a stronger bulb I can use? As sure someone wrote you have to be careful as too powerful bulb can do some damage.
Any advice very much appreciated :)

Yes there is. Search ebay, 55w bright white is the most powerful you can fit without doing any damage etc..

check the simple things first, state of reflector, contacts on the contact block and the earthing.
If any of the contacts are less than perfect, it can lead to quite a high voltage drop to the lamp less voltage = less light

Do all of the above regards checking the earths and if necessary fit a secondary earth in too, it has been noted that there can be high resistance coming through the loom to the lights too on older models.

To get over this you can do as I have done and fitted relays in to the lighting system, there are a number of ways to do this.

you can take either of the lamp wires and make a new loom using the old lighting wires as trigger wires to the new relays and then feed both lights from the new relays.

you can fit relays on each side and power the lamps individually from each relay.

There is another option that I don't understand so won't embarrass myself trying to explain it.

Along with running something like OSRAM Night Breaker bulbs you will have great lights.

Is a HID conversion available. I fitted one to my Elise and the difference is quite amazing. The are adjusted correctly don't glow blue like some do and no issues with an MOT. To be honest the originals are like candles in comparison.

they are illegal.

For the cost comparison I would go for relays every time, let alone the fact that they are not legal.

thats exactly what I did on mine, but so far only on dip beam,
but fitted 80/100 watt blue tinted bulbs, so my main driving is on dip beam, and main beam is "ok" as its rated at 100watt, but got the dreaded power drop, so it more or less comes out about 60 or 70 watt in true values.
got my twin fog lights at 55watts through relays too taking the switch feed also (trigger) from the dip beam trigger feeds.
works for me. ;)

Osram NightBreaker Plus on my last few vehicles. Just blown a bulb yesterday so getting a pair of NightBreaker Unlimited now - £17 at ECP Upgrade Headlamp Bulbs

As mentioned above, if your wiring is old, redo them with relays and you'll have a huge improvement.

+ 1

do what they all say.

Aftermarket HID kits are indeed illegal, despite anyone trying to tell you otherwise.

Replacing your reflectors(bowls) and fitting better bulbs will give a massive improvement.
