Right I have a P reg 300tdi with 131.000 on the clock.
I got no info off the previous owner on when or what work has been carried out.
I'll just to the point.... my engine gets rather hot and there used to be orange fluid around the coolant reservoir.. I put this down to the top not being screwed on properly as it doesn't anymore apart from pink around the bottom of the thread.

Now my question is.. Is my head gasket on the way out? If so how much will it cost roughly?

is rad hot all over its core surface . is system full ie overflows if you remove bung on thermostat housing, in theory you could change head gasket for the cost of a gasket ie a tenner and your labour ,but its best to buy a top end kit and do a proper job

My temp gauge doesn't move. I will check all that all tomorrow after a good run but how much is it to do it properly ie at a garage?

200 and upwards ,depends if its just gasket depends were you get it done
