hi all do you need to to change the bolt in the head when you change the gasket

well i read yesterday while looking at a friends tdi that apparently the headbolts could be used up to 5 times, not sure if i would do that, i would change them irrespective im sure someone will know for definate on here, but like i siad if it were me doing a headgasket, then id change them especially as they dont cost much

just done mine, and your quite right maximum of 5 times use. but personally, buy new for piece of mind, their only a few quid.

The LR manual says re use up to 4 times ....whether they mean thats a total of 5 or not I dont know but over 3 is probably pushing it a bit , plus , how sure are you of what the last ones fitted were ?

Hi I have done my head twice on the old bolts and it is ok, no problems 50,000 on, leaking when first bought, and blown at the back of the head, towing my caravan, cheap gasket, now only O/E parts for head now used.
