I have been investigating why the HDC on my 1999 Freelander does not work. The lights come up on the dash when the ignition is turned on, which apparently is a good sign. I thought then that it might be the well-known problem with the wiring around the switch on the gear-lever.

However, when I went to look at the wiring I found that there was none! As far as I can tell, the rest of the assembly is all there, but the wires are missing.

Can anyone tell me where the wires from the switch normally run to, and whether it would be possible to connect them up if I bought some wiring to see whether the HDC works. How difficult a job would this be?

Have you pulled the gear stick gator up and had a good look around as its a fairly common problem for the wires to break and they at times drop down and can be hidden out of sight.
If there is a plug attached to the switch then if you take it off and solder 2 wires to it, all you then need to do is find the other ends attach and off you go.

I took the gear knob off and then removed the gator to try and find this wiring, but could not see it anywhere. What I want to know is where the wires normally run to, then I may be able to investigate the other end of the connection as well.
