Hi, just bought my first 4x4 freelander. The Hdc is not working, I have fixed the switch as the wires where broken from the solder but still no Hdc. Light comes on dash at start up then disappears. I have tested the wires and switch with multi meter, they seem fine just under 12v going through. Help.

do the amber HDC ABS and TC lights come on for bulb test

when i got mine 4 month ago someone wired my abs light to make it look like it was working and the others had the bulbs removed as they were trying to hide a big problem

Hmm, no they don't light up. Green Hdc, srs, battery, oil, door open and handbrake lights come on. Nothing else. Did you get the problem solved and what may be involved? On top of this small issue I have coolant problems with hopefully will get sorted tomorrow.

you need to take the instrument cluster out

check the orange HDC TC and ABS light bulbs as i say mine were missing and i still have problem but its because i am saving to buy a hawkeye machine as i have replaced the ABS pump ABS ecu and 4 Abs sensors and rings and still have the lights

Mines the same and I suspect the bulbs have been taken out to hide a problem. Not in any great hurry to fix - just on my 'to do' list now I've done the diff mount and VCU. Other nigggles are appearing but usual stuff that is well reported /sorted on here. The TDC etc problems/fixes are well covered and sooner or later I will be trawling through the various threads.

first thing to do is put bulbs in and just see what lights are on..... all i can say is that is my ABS was wired to go out after 5 seconds on ignition on which is why i thought it worked fine....

if you have 3 lights on you need to check your Brake light switch if its a 2 pin switch this cant be to blame so the local Land Rover garage told me..

then test your ABS sensors all should be between 950-1100 ohms any higher or lower and i was told to replace

if there fine check the ABS rings next

Just checked and obviously some un honest so and so has removed the bulbs. Tested with another bulb and every last bulb that's missing stays lit up. Will replace missing bulbs when I can get some as for the sensors I have no idea where they are located. Thanks for helping so far guys.

the bulbs you need are 284 and 286 if i remember rightly altho you may need bulb holders unless they have put them back once the bulbs removed...

Right, lights in, 3 amegos on. Coolant issues sorted (for now). I found the 2 sensor connections in the engine bay, where do they lead. I'm thinking there's got to be a way to test them all together. Where do they all lead in to?

Also just tested and cleaned break light switch, that's not the problem.

hello mate

there is 2 connections engine bay and theres 2 one each side behind the rear wheel arch

what car do you have. upto 2001 they have a Wabco ECU under the drivers seat and thats where the sensors go to what i would do is test each sensor at the connection and the then again at the wiring at the ecu if you have the same type as mine as that way you can test the wiring :)

each sensor should be between 950-1100ohms

i have replaced all 4 sensors and found 1 of my new ones has gone faulty already as it reads 1125ohms after only 1 month of being on car

you are able to download Autodata or Rave or even both and you will get wiring diagrams what what wires need to be tested.

It's a 1999, I think this small problem can wait for a bit as I have bigger head gasket problem that the dealer was supost to have sorted out but obviously bodged. Can't take the bugger back as he told us about the overheating problem so bought as seen. Good job it was cheap.

Once the coolant is sorted I will continue with the abs sensor. Thanks for helping guys.
