Afternoon all,

I have a suitable knackered axle I would like to bring back to life and was wondering if anybody had any pics or plans of the HD weld on diff pans I've seen knocking about

The one I have is a spare since I was forced to replace it [emoji5] but the rest of it bar the diff is in cracking condition worth freshly rebuilt hubs, new discs and really good condition swivels. So I whilst I wait for the replacement to blow up I thought I could refurbish this one in the mean time.

So come on what do you have? Any pics or plans? Pretty please............

Seen pics of them being repaired by welding in suitably shaped peices of metal (im sure someone will come along with some pics) but seems like alot of cutting and welding

By far the easyest way i can think of would be to use the bottom off an old gas cylinder as it would be roughly the right shape and size to start with

Yeah was just going to say there are some nice pics on here somewhere of someone making a heavy duty one out of an old gas cylinder.
 
I build HD diff pans. :)

Mine are made from 6mm plate.

Just built those green ones for another forum member. And that's them being fitted to his RRC.

Robbh these are the ones i was thinking about but my useless searches turned up nothing, thanks for posting them buddy. Do you think 6mm is necessary or is that what you had knocking about? i note that the old pan is 2mm at best and i dont have a folder or press that could deal with 6mm whereas i reckon i could manually abuse something a little thinner into shape with a vice and a big hammer.

next up i dont suppose you have any measurements do you? I know its cheeky but being on the otherside of europe i couldnt really ask you to do mine as the drive over in the landy is more than my ears (or wallet) could take ;)

I would really appreciate any pointers you could reveal (by PM if you wish)

6mm is probably overkill but I'd rather it not fail when my disco is abused heavily offroad.

Nowt wrong with over engineering things! ;)


You could probably make it from 3mm it'll still be a lot stronger than standard diff pans.

I'll send some info over via pm. :)

Will hopefully have a few more photos of those green ones once I've rebuilt the rear axle and bolt it up under the RRC.

And the abuse my diff pans get. Landed right on the diff and not a scratch. :)


Bloody bridge moved as I was going over it! :D:rolleyes:
