£240!! Flippin hell thats value. I paid that much alone for the EAS Kicker when it came out first which only did one system!

Its probably not a rival for the full fat faultmate but its hard to call between it and the FCR.

The one thing I would say though is that if buying the FCR gives you access to the BBS support forum (I don't know?) then that would tip the balance in favour of the FCR. The BBS support is outstanding, there is a wealth of knowledge and experience on the electronic side of RR's there.

Just be careful if you are buying for early P38's, there is a third ABS ECU not listed in the Hawkeye list which is fitted to the very early ones and the same with airbags.
 
dougdotcom is near you and has a BBS FAULTMATE Extreme kit as he fixed my DSE when it lost sync. Now that is a great bit of kit. But for a little more than a FCR I would buy a hawkeye because it does clear the codes.

I carry it with me all the time and can clear problems from ABS, BECM, EAS HVAC and all in between as they occur. I can also help other P38 owners as the hawkeye is not limited to one VIN number.

I would suggest people do the research and decide on the merits of the various systems available. Hawkeye does require extra cables for some of its functions and they are expensive.

It wasn't a Faultmate as I recall but an Fault Code Reader and Clearer (FCR).
The Faultmate reads and clears all known faults and is about £490 at current exchange rates for the complete kit.:)
All of the diagnostic tools require the ability to interpret the info they provide.:)

Isn't that the basic price? I thought it came to a lot more than that with all the cables when I looked?:confused:
 
Hawkeye with basic cable £249 + VAT. Extra cables for P38 EAS cable £44 +VAT. Grey Adapter for P38 Airbags £32.50 + VAT. = £390.60. Unless you need a cable for the Lucus 14CUX Engine management system which is £55 + VAT (Which I don't have)
I bought the update cable and PSU which I could not use and had to return the unit to Bearmach for the free V5 update.
As far as I can see that is about it.
I don't have any connection to Bearmach, just tell it how it is. I don't know what the BBS system costs and have no real interest as I already have a system sufficient to my needs. I have already suggested people do the research and make their own mind up.
 
Just had a look on the BBS site and there is an update for the fcr mainly glitches in the P38 so when I find my mini usb lead I will give it a shot.

enery8, agree with you on paucity of P38 info in Hawkeye manuals. So far there hasn't been anything we couldn't do, just took a bit more poking around. Must say you got a better response from Bearmach than we did though, for some reason they put us directly in touch with someone at Omitec (makers of Testbook and Hawkeye) who got quite offended that we wanted to ask a few questions to understand how it works!

Just uploaded to version 1.7 and it still says there are 13 faults with no book symbol... think I will try a S/H ecu.
 
Rasheed: I tried the Omitec route and just got referred to Bearmach. I have had help from the technical dept at Bearmach, they were excellent in getting my Hawkeye updated and returned. Clive Myall, who I believe is the boss, did say he was not very happy with the user manual (especially the P38 version) and that it is his intention to update it. I sent him an email on Friday regarding this so hope to hear something soon. I do think they need to improve technical support/customer service if they want to improve their market share. I will let you know if I here anything.

Lowfat: I read today, on the BBS website that 'The Faultmate FCR is designed and manufactured specifically for Reading and Clearing all possible Fault Codes on every system with built-in self diagnostic capability on board each Land Rover model it covers'. So maybe an email to 'Colin' would get an update issued to correct the problem
 
Anybody tried emailing BBS, as to why it won't clear the faults on the Hevac ?... Gotta be worth a punt ?
 
Paul, That's what I suggested above. I think you suggested that at the beginning of this thread.
At the time I had not visited the BBS website so did not know they claim that The Faultmate FCR is designed and manufactured specifically for Reading and Clearing all possible Fault Codes.

Yup just noted your post ... I am sure Colin will provide the answer, Myself and a few others got our FCR's with a good discount & free postage... Kinda 1 time deal as a Landyzone offer with BBS...if I.recall 12 of use bought one ...then another offer on the faltmate extreme, but bit to much for me .. but Datatek now enjoys the full gizmo...
 
After loads of agonising over different diagnostics . Finally went for a hawkeye v5 for the l322 td6. Just needed the red adaptor . Main reasons were that it doesn't require a lap top to work and I felt my computer skills were not good enough for some of the other options. I really want it as a get out of jail card. We take the car to France alot and you can also change the language to French . Might just help at some point. Only just picked it up so lots to learn...

This is why I started the post because my fcr will not clear hevac codes but the hawkeye will. Mine is also at version 1.7.
