I have just purchased a late series 3 (f reg)swb in need of restoration but cant quite work out its history it is a series 3 body but is on an apparently defender chasis (coil sprung).I am very new to landrovers but can get advice from people more knowledgable then me ,but they are also at a loss,and sugested that i join this forum to try to find out more history on this vehicle. thanks for any sugestions of where to look for info ian

F reg??? thats a 90 if by f you mean approx 1987

I will take some pictures and try to post them,im new to the world of landrovers so please bear with me.
From what I have been told this vehicle is right on the change over between the series 111 and defender (or should I be saying 90)range.The guys at work have never seen a series 111 with coil sprung original chasis,also the hard top though original doesnt look like it should be on this vehicle.Its date of registration is 010189,and it does say on the logbook it is a 90.

If it says on the logbook it's a ninety, and it's coil sprung, what would make you think it was a series 3?

have a look on here Land Rover FAQ - Vehicle Identification - General Overview it has good explinations of the different models.

maybe someone made an ugly looking 90 into a nice looking series 3!!
